On Autumn and Projects

"Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile."
-  William Cullen Bryant

Autumn Equinox has passed, and a Lunar Eclipse was visible in the early hours of a crisp cool morning.  A "Blood Moon" it was dubbed, was illuminating and worth seeing.  Fall is the time of the year associated with Halloween and Thanksgiving, so the name was appropriate.  Counting our blessings is a tradition in the fall.

It is the time of the year when people harvest the last of their veggies and fresh grown foods. We prepare for a dying earth that is to come in winter, to renew the soil for fresh crops in the Spring. The daylight hours become more scarce quickly, the cold sneaks up on us. It is said that we cannot have light without dark about Autumn, because the Earth must renew itself.

The home itself is a blessing, all who have one of their own are lucky.  A warm place in the cold, a place to eat and sleep are a commodity these days.  I feel it is important to make the most of what we have and reuse old things and make them new whenever possible. It saves money, our environment, and it allows creativity to be used in ways that are useful and functional.  I reuse old coffee cans to make containers for sugar, rice, and other kitchen counter essentials for instance.  Old tires can be planters for flowers; old bike rims can be painted and hung as decorations on the tool shed.
